Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 8, 2026
Unlonely is built to be a private, anonymous place. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Anonymous by design
You do not need to give us your name, email, or phone number to start using Unlonely. Your account is anonymous, and the username you pick is a pen name, not your real identity. Other users never see who you are.
What we collect
- What you write. The letters, responses, journal entries, and messages to Aura that you create in the app.
- Voice notes. If you record a voice journal entry, we process the audio to turn it into text so Aura can respond.
- How you are feeling. The moods you log and any notes you add.
- A little account data. Your pen name, pronoun, birth year or age confirmation, chosen topics, level and streak, and app settings.
- Basic usage and device data. Limited technical information needed to run the app reliably, such as app version and crash or error information. We keep this to a minimum.
If you optionally link a sign-in method (for example, Sign in with Apple), we use it only to let you recover your account. We do not receive your contacts or social graph.
How we use your data
- To deliver the core experience: sending your letters to others anonymously, delivering letters to you, and saving your journal and moods.
- To power the AI features: generating Aura's reflections and replies, and remembering themes from your journal so conversations feel continuous.
- To keep the community safe: automated moderation of letters, responses, and messages, and detecting when someone may be in crisis so we can share support resources.
- To operate, secure, and improve the app.
AI processing
Unlonely uses third-party AI providers to power moderation, voice transcription, journal reflections, and the Aura companion. When you use these features, the relevant text or audio is sent to those providers to generate a result and returned to the app. We share it with them only to provide these features, under their API terms, and we do not sell your personal information to anyone.
Who can see your content
Your journal entries, moods, and your conversations with Aura are private to you and are not shown to other users. Letters and responses are shared anonymously with other people, which is the whole point of the app, but they are never attached to your real identity. Our team may review content when needed to enforce our rules or respond to safety issues.
Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure (our database and file storage are hosted with Supabase). Access is restricted so that, by default, only you can read your own private content.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your content while your account is active so the app works. You can delete your account at any time from the app's settings. When you do, we remove your profile and associated content on a going-forward basis, except where we need to keep limited information to comply with the law, resolve disputes, or prevent abuse. Content you already shared anonymously with others may persist in an anonymized form.
Safety and legal requests
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with the law, protect someone's safety, or investigate abuse of the app, including threats of harm to yourself or others.
Children
Unlonely is only for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will delete it.
Your choices
Because the app is anonymous, you are always in control of what you share. You can stop using AI features, avoid recording voice notes, and delete your account and its content at any time. If you have questions or a request about your data, contact us and we will help.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to this policy, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
